GT Online Book
Trade FAQ |
|
 |
Do I have to pay to use GTOBT?
NO, GTOBT remains free to all Georgia Tech students. This does
not mean in the future that ads, or other means of compensation
will be neglected.
What is My Portal?
My Portal is your customized utility where you can sell books,
bid on books, and update your account settings and email alerts.
You need a username and password to use My Portal which can be
obtained for free by
clicking here.
Is GTOBT an online book auction
site?
NO. GTOBT is an intermediate interface for buyers and
sellers of used books to communicate with each other in order to
avoid costs and fees affiliated with Buy Back programs at
Bookstores. Although bidding takes place, no time limit is
set on when a book can be traded. The seller at anytime
can delete his/her book or accept bids.
Do I have to be a Georgia Tech student to use this site?
YES. GTOBT was designed specifically for Georgia Tech
students and it is a requirement that you are a student of
Georgia Tech.
Does GTOBT take care of the final transaction of money with
the book(s)?
Not at this time. GTOBT is an intermediate interface for buyers and
sellers of used books. All trading is physically done by
the buyer and seller. GTOBT will not 'move' your books for
you. In the future the SGA Campus Services Committee may
implement a "trading station."
Can I retract a bid once I place one on a book?
There are no options at this time for retracting bids.
Please be sure before you bid on a book that you absolutely need
it and are absolutely willing to pay the seller the price you
bid.
What happens if a buyer doesn't want to pay me what he/she
bid?
GTOBT is better off a casual environment for selling/buying
books. If this happens to you, please avoid confrontation
and simply re-post your book. A student that was outbid before
may see your book again and bid on it.
How do I know when my bid is accepted?
At this time, you will receive an email with a special link
for you and the seller that contains both of your contact
information.How will
I know if I am outbid by another user?
As of now, emails indicating outbidding has not been
implemented. Look for this feature soon.
How can I tell others about GTOBT?
Please take the time as often as possible to refer friends
that you believe can utilize this free service.
